Hyderabad: Mumbai-based Lead Group, an edtech startup, has set a target to introduce its learning systemsin 350 private schools in Telangana and 300 – 350 schools in Andhra Pradesh, over the next two - three years. At present, the edtech startup has rolled out its innovations in total 700 schools across both the Telugu states.

The startup provides learning systems to schools, parents and students, from nursery to grade 10. Lead Group entered Hyderabad in 2019 after onboarding three schools, now it is present in more than 100 schools in the city.

Majority of the schools here have now adopted their latest innovation, called as TechBook and other technologies offered under three brands – Lead, Propel and Pinnacle+.

Speaking with Bizz Buzz on the sidelines of the third edition of Shiksha Awards 2025, Sumeet Mehta, Co-Founder and CEO, Lead Group, said: “In the next three years our aim is to be present in 200 schools in Hyderabad and total 700 schools across Telangana, with a similar target of 600 – 700 schools in Andhra Pradesh. With this growth in place, we plan to double our business in these two States.

Currently we have the highest presence in both the Telugu states, followed by 320 in Tamil Nadu and 300 in Uttar Pradesh. TG and AP contribute about 20 per cent to our overall revenue.”

When asked about the additional cost incurred on a parent after a school subscribes to their offering, Mehta said,“The fees collected by top tier schools for a year in Hyderabad is Rs 1 lakh, whereas at an affordable private school it is Rs 25,000 for a year. We ask these affordable private schools to pay us Rs 150 additional per student for a month, for leveling up their teaching method through our learning systems. We designed the solution for scale so as to make it affordable.”

The edtech startup has introduced its Lead offering in 250 schools, Pinnacle+ in 30 and Propel in 60 schools across Telangana, and 250 schools have adopted Lead, 50 have taken Pinnacle+, 95 have Propel, across AP.

On a query about collaborating with government schools, Mehta informed that the startup had worked with Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 2016-17, resulting in increase of student enrolments and average result.

“The openness is missing in governments to enter partnership with private players like us who can improve a students learning. A government spends Rs 45,000 on each child per year. Reports indicate that learning levels at government schools is abysmal. If the government pays me two-third of this amount, Lead Group will assure an increase in average level of the class,” he added.
